Kapuyt

Kapuyt is a small border village in Vayots Dzor province. It is located at an altitude of 1840 meters above sea level. The winter here is so harsh that some of the residents leave the village, then return in the spring.
The village is called Kapuyt(blue) because blue flowers grow in the surrounding area.
The first mention of the Kapuyt village dates back to the 13th century. During that period, the village was a large settlement with a rich farm and belonged to the Proshyan princes. In 1604, due to the invasion and forced displacement of Abbas the Great(king of Iran, 1588-1629), the village was depopulated and resettled by Muslims. During the Soviet era, the village was inhabited by Azerbaijanis, who left the village in 1989, after which Armenians have again resided in Kapuyt to this day.
In and around Kapuyt village there are such famous sights as the natural basalt arch, Nameless Lake, rock of khachkars and medieval cemetery.
