Vahagn Waterfall is located in the Khosrov Nature Reserve. Water falls from a high cliff in a thin stream.
Vahagn Waterfall is located next to Astghik Waterfall. Both waterfalls are named after the ancient Armenian gods Vahagn and Astghik. In Armenian mythology, Vahagn is the god of courage and war, and Astghik is the goddess of love and beauty.
According to legend, Astghik and Vahagn are lovers. One day, the god of the underworld kidnaps Astghik, and after that, love and beauty disappear from people. But Vahagn, defeating the dragon, frees Astghik. In ancient Armenia, people believed that rain falls because of the meeting of Astghik and Vahagn.
Vahagn and Astghik Waterfalls are among the most beautiful natural monuments in Armenia and are a very attractive hiking destination.
